ABIRALIEVA 250MG ( Abiraterone Acetate Tablets IP 25mg )

ABIRALIEVA 250 mg contains Abiraterone Acetate, an oral androgen biosynthesis inhibitor. It works by irreversibly inhibiting CYP17 (17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase), an enzyme essential for androgen production in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumor tissue. This leads to profound suppression of androgen levels and slows prostate cancer progression.

Abiraterone is indicated for:

1. Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (mCRPC)

2. Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mHSPC)

 Always used with prednisone or prednisolone and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Common side effects:

•  Hypertension

•  Hypokalemia

•  Fluid retention / edema

•  Hot flashes

•  Fatigue

Laboratory abnormalities:

•  Elevated liver enzymes

•  Low potassium levels

Serious side effects:

•  Hepatotoxicity

•  Cardiac disorders (heart failure, arrhythmias)

 Regular monitoring of blood pressure, serum potassium, and liver function tests is mandatory.

Standard adult dose:

•  1000 mg once daily
    (i.e., four 250 mg tablets)

Plus:

•  Prednisone / Prednisolone 5 mg twice daily

 Take on an empty stomach (at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after food).
