ABIRALIEVA 500MG ( Abiraterone Acetate Tablets IP 500mg )

ABIRALIEVA 500 mg contains Abiraterone Acetate, an oral androgen biosynthesis inhibitor. It blocks the enzyme CYP17 (17α-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase), which is essential for androgen production in the testes, adrenal glands, and prostate tumor tissue. This results in profound suppression of circulating and intratumoral androgens, slowing prostate cancer growth.

Abiraterone is indicated for:

1.  Metastatic Castration-Resistant Prostate Cancer (mCRPC)
2.  Metastatic Hormone-Sensitive Prostate Cancer (mHSPC)

 Always used with prednisone/prednisolone and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT).

Common side effects:

•  Hypertension

•  Hypokalemia

•  Fluid retention / edema

•  Hot flashes

•  Fatigue

Laboratory abnormalities:

•  Elevated liver enzymes

•  Low serum potassium

Serious side effects:

•  Hepatotoxicity

•  Cardiac disorders (arrhythmia, heart failure)

•  Adrenal insufficiency (if steroids stopped abruptly)

 Close monitoring of blood pressure, potassium levels, and liver function tests is required.

Standard adult dose:

•  1000 mg once daily
(i.e., two 500 mg tablets)

Plus:

•  Prednisone / Prednisolone 5 mg twice daily

 Must be taken on an empty stomach
(≥1 hour before or ≥2 hours after food).
