AFALIEVA 40MG ( Afatinib Tablets IP 40mg )

AFALIEVA 40 mg contains Afatinib, an oral irreversible ErbB family tyrosine kinase inhibitor (TKI). It blocks EGFR (ErbB1) and HER2 (ErbB2) signaling by covalently binding to the receptor, thereby inhibiting tumor cell growth and survival. Afatinib is effective against tumors with EGFR activating mutations.

Afatinib is indicated for:

1. Metastatic Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer (NSCLC)
     – With EGFR exon 19 deletion or exon 21 (L858R) substitution mutations

2. Squamous Cell Carcinoma of the Lung
     – After failure of platinum-based chemotherapy (selected patients)

Common side effects:

   •  Diarrhea

   •  Acneiform skin rash

   •  Stomatitis / mouth ulcers

   •  Paronychia (nail infections)

   •  Dry skin

Serious side effects:

   •  Severe diarrhea leading to dehydration

   •  Interstitial lung disease (rare)

   •  Hepatotoxicity

 Early management of diarrhea and skin toxicity is important.

Standard adult dose:

   • 40 mg once daily

 Dose may be reduced to 30 mg or 20 mg based on tolerability.
