APRELIEVA contains Aprepitant, an antiemetic drug belonging to the Neurokinin-1 (NK1) receptor antagonist class. It works by blocking substance P in the brain, thereby preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV).
Aprepitant is used for:
1. Prevention of acute and delayed chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV)
2. Prevention of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) (selected cases)
3. Used in combination with 5-HT3 antagonists (e.g., ondansetron) and corticosteroids
Common side effects:
• Fatigue
• Hiccups
• Constipation or diarrhea
• Headache
• Loss of appetite
Less common / serious side effects:
• Elevated liver enzymes
• Allergic reactions (rare)
For CINV (3-day regimen):
• Day 1: 125 mg orally (before chemotherapy)
• Day 2 & 3: 80 mg once daily
Take 1 hour before chemotherapy on Day 1
