Description

Etoposide is a semisynthetic podophyllotoxin derivative and a topoisomerase II inhibitor. It works by preventing DNA unwinding and replication in cancer cells, leading to cell death. Etoposide is widely used in various chemotherapy regimens for both solid tumors and hematological malignancies.


Uses

Etoposide Injection IP is indicated for the treatment of:

  • Small Cell Lung Cancer (SCLC)
  • Testicular cancer (in combination therapy)
  • Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Acute leukemia
  • Other malignancies as prescribed by an oncologist


Side Effects

Common side effects:

  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Hair loss (alopecia)
  • Weakness and fatigue
  • Loss of appetite

Hematological toxicity:

  • Leukopenia (low WBC)
  • Thrombocytopenia (low platelets)
  • Anemia

Other side effects:

  • Low blood pressure (during infusion)
  • Mouth ulcers (mucositis)
  • Diarrhea

Serious but less common:

  • Severe infections due to immunosuppression
  • Allergic reactions
  • Secondary leukemia (rare)


Dosage Information

To be administered under strict medical supervision in a hospital/oncology setting.

  • 50–100 mg/m² IV daily for 3–5 consecutive days
