MEGESLIEVA 160 mg contains Megestrol Acetate, a synthetic progestational hormone. It has appetite-stimulating and anti-estrogenic properties and is commonly used to manage cancer-related anorexia and as hormonal therapy in certain hormone-responsive cancers.
Megestrol is used for:
1. Cancer-related anorexia and cachexia
– Improves appetite and promotes weight gain
2. Advanced Breast Cancer
– Hormone-responsive cases
1. Endometrial Carcinoma
2. Palliative management in advanced malignancy
Common side effects:
• Increased appetite and weight gain
• Fluid retention / edema
• Fatigue
• Nausea
Serious side effects:
• Thromboembolic events (DVT/PE)
• Adrenal suppression (long-term use)
• Hyperglycemia (especially in diabetics)
Use cautiously in patients with diabetes or history of thrombosis.
Typical adult dose:
• 160 mg once daily
• Dose may be adjusted based on indication and response
Tablets may be given as single or divided doses.
